Terms of use

1. Accepting these terms

By creating an account or uploading a kit on romanydna.com you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate registration details, keep your password and 2-step settings secure, and confirm your email address. You are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are personal; one person per account, and co-ownership of a kit is handled with the site's sharing feature.

3. DNA you upload — ownership and consent

• You confirm you have the right to upload each kit. For your own DNA that is you; for anyone else you must have their informed permission (for a deceased person, authority from the family or estate).
• DNA data is processed with your explicit consent so it can be matched and analysed. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting the kit or your account.
• Do not upload a kit if you are under 18; minors' kits must be managed by a parent or guardian with the minor's assent as they mature.
• Uploading DNA you have no right to share, or attempting to identify people against their wishes, is a serious breach of these terms.

4. The shared family tree

The family tree is a collaborative community project: any signed-in member may add and edit people, relationships and photos. By contributing you grant us a non-exclusive licence to store and display that content on the service. Do not add private information about living people beyond what is necessary for genealogy, and respect requests to correct or remove entries. We may remove content that is unlawful, abusive or privacy-invasive.

5. Acceptable use

• No illegal use, harassment, hate, or attempts to identify people without a legitimate genealogical purpose.
• No scraping, bulk extraction, automated account creation, or attempts to overload or break the service.
• No uploading of malware or content that infringes someone else's rights; no commercial resale of the service or its data.

6. Not medical or legal advice

Ethnicity estimates, matches, relationship predictions, reconstructions and every other result are genealogical estimates and can be wrong. They are not medical, diagnostic or legal advice and must not be used for health, immigration, insurance or legal decisions.

7. Beta and experimental tools

Tools marked "beta" or "experimental" are works in progress, offered as-is, and may change or be withdrawn. Do not rely on them for conclusions without independent checks.

8. Availability, changes and termination

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service, and may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or put other members at risk. You can delete your kits and close your account at any time from your settings.

9. Intellectual property

The site, its code, text and design belong to their respective owners. Third-party reference data and libraries are used under their own licences and credited in the relevant tools. Your contributions remain yours, subject to the licence in section 4.

10. Liability

The service is free and provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, or for decisions you make from estimated results. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
